Buying a car is a very time-consuming process. It involves spending a lot of time in choosing the right car, interacting with a dealer and handling the legal documents.
Sanjay Bharti, the co-founder of vLer experienced this same trouble when he was buying his own car.
My personal experience was of my father spending a good 2-3 months to purchase a car. It would take a lot time and most of it would just be wasted on the decision-making part itself.
vLer is an online platform which helps the user find the perfect car, given his budget and preferences. It is all about making car buying simple.
So what vLer decided to do
vLer decided to just make it simple. They wanted the user to just come to the site, give in all their likes and preferences, sit back and relax. vLer would then do all the hard-work from comparing all the different cars, brands and dealers; to eventually help the user find the right one.
The user didn’t need to know about any technical terms (like the torque, bhp) nor did he have to physically visit the dealer to learn more about the car or get a quote. With vLer, the user could see everything in one place.
When the user asks for a quote, vLer automatically collects them from different dealers and makes the dealers compete over the price. This means the user always get a very competitive price.
Before the customers used to approach the dealers for better prices. But now we are making the dealers approach the customers for better prices. It’s like a reverse auction.
If the user is satisfied with the car and the price, he then schedules for a test drive. And vLer even brings the car straight to his doorstep; just so that the user doesn’t have to travel all the way to the dealer’s showroom.
Once the test-drive is done and the customer is happy, then the deal is closed.
vLer rating & recommendations
To give an amazing user experience, vLer decided to put in couple of different features to help simplify things.
A recommendation engine
vLer built a very diverse recommendation engine to help find the right car according to the user’s preference. It takes in many different options like the car brand, fuel type, transmission type etc.
Additionally, vLer uses real-time data, machine learning algorithms and user-behavioural psychology to improve the quality of recommendations.
All in all, it’s a powerful engine which makes finding the right car quick and easy.
vLer also introduced a new concept called vLer rating. It is a simple score which rates all the different features of the car (like performance, safety, style etc) by just using a number from 1-10.
The rating is also relative to the cars that the user is comparing with. Which means the best car will have the highest rating and everything else would be in comparison to it.
It takes in a lot of other information aside from the car itself (eg: the user’s budget). So if the user’s budget is Rs. 10L, then the ratings adjust accordingly.
This makes it very easy for the user to compare cars and figure out what is best suited for him.
What’s the competition like?
Currently, there’s no-one that has the exact same model as vLer. However, there are similar players like CarWale, CarDekho etc, who follow a lead generation model.
These services take the customer’s details and forward the leads directly to the dealer.
vLer however, focuses as a customer-first product. With all the options that the customer gets, vLer ensures that the customer knows that he’s getting the right car at the right price. So when the customers meet the dealer, there is a better chance of closing the deal.
Both the customer’s and the dealer’s time is saved.
The story behind vLer
After going through a lot of struggles, hard work and research for nearly 8 months, Sanjay & Jeevan finally launched vLer on May 2016.
Right now vLer lets you find the best offers online from a collection of hand-picked dealers and allows you to test drive vehicles straight from your doorstep.
vLer aims to become the largest portal for online car selling, eventually replacing the car dealerships themselves. vLer believes that in the near future, people are going to be more accustomed to services delivered straight to their home rather than visiting dealerships.
In the near future, vLer will allow users to even manage even their documentation online and vLer will also tie up directly with OEMs. This will completely replace the entire concept of a dealership with vLer.
